Wow, what a winter it has been here in Toledo! I honestly am not much of a complainer about winter because I love the beauty the snow adds to the world. I love how a snow day makes people slow down. I love how a Level 3 snow emergency forces people to stay home and have family time. I love how the snow makes the night seem brighter. And I love the glimmer in my daughters’ eyes when they see the snow falling and squeal with glee knowing they will soon get to play in it. I know I’m among the minority in feeling this way. One thing I don’t understand is why people complain about it. Seriously, it’s winter. This is what it’s supposed to do in winter in Northwest Ohio. If our winters didn’t consist of snow and cold temps, then something would be wrong. Yes, I look forward to spring because, well, loading my daughters in and out of the car in negative temps with the wind burning my face isn’t fun. But it’s only for a season.
I often say that in life, it’s only for a season. And it’s so true. No matter what you are going through in life, no matter what you may be facing today, it’s only for a season. But while you are in the season, you choose your attitude. Will you be a complainer or will you embrace it and look for the beauty in the bitter cold? Your attitude is always up to you. Although I would like my daughters to believe the world is always full of rainbows, lollipops and unicorns, the truth is, it’s not. But how we face the world, how we deal with the season of life we are in, is all up to us.
And in the mean time, my photography has slowed down but I know as soon as we catch a glimpse of green grass and beautiful flowers with the birds singing in the trees above, I’ll be busy again. So in this season, I’m going to enjoy the down times.
